During a break in the action in Wednesday’s third-round qualifying at the Suncoast PBA Senior U.S. Open presented by Dexter, 2013 PBA50 Player of the Year Walter Ray Williams Jr., Rookie of the Year Pete Weber and Dick Weber Sportsmanship award winner Robert Harvey were presented with their respective awards at the Suncoast Bowling Center.
The awards were presented by PBA staffer Barb Wilt who will be retiring from the organization in August after 44 years of service.
Bowling in all 11 tournaments in 2013 and leading all competitors with three titles, Williams earned his second consecutive PBA50 Player of the Year crown in 2013.
Williams led earnings with $41,175, competition points with 204,157 and he placed third on the average list with a 229.46 average for 304 games. Along with his three titles, Williams had two thirds, two fourths, including the Suncoast Senior U.S. Open, and he had three other 10th-place finishes including the USBC Senior Masters.
Weber won two titles, including his first PBA50 Tour major in the USBC Senior Masters, in his third tournament. He also won the season-ending Treasure Island Resort & Casino presented by MOTIV Open in Welch, Minn., a victory that clinched the Rookie of the Year title. Weber, who won Rookie of the Year on the PBA Tour in 1980, also had two third-place finishes, a fourth and a ninth and led the tour in average with 233.7.
Harvey earned his second sportsmanship award, having received it the first time in 2010. He has competed on the Senior Tour since 2008 and owns one PBA50 Tour title which came in the Illinois State BPA Ladies and Legends doubles event which he won with partner Kelly Kulick in 2008. He finished second to Weber in the Treasure Island Resort & Casino Open in 2013.
