Thomas Patterson of Owasso, Okla.; 2012 PBA Southwest Region Rookie of the Year Sean Lavery of Plano, Texas; PBA Tour rookie Aaron Lorincz of Belleville, Mich., and James Cantere of Honolulu, Hawaii, won paid entries into Oklahoma’s Grand Casino Resort PBA Summer Swing during a weekend win-a-spot qualifier at FireLake Bowling Center in Shawnee, Okla.
The four win-a-spot entries complete the sold-out field of 120 players.
FireLake will be the host for all qualifying and match play rounds of the Wolf, Bear, Badger and Oklahoma Open tournaments that will comprise the PBA Summer Swing May 19-25. All preliminary rounds of those events will be covered live on PBA’s online bowling channel, Xtra Frame, and the stepladder finals for the four PBA Tour title events – plus the special Oklahoma’s Grand Casino Resort Summer King of the Swing finale – will be conducted on a special lane installation in the Grand Casino Resort Events Center on May 24 and 25.
Each of the five-player, two-hour stepladder finals will air on CBS Sports Network on consecutive Tuesdays beginning in June. THREE PBA STARS INDUCTED INTO USBC HALL OF FAME
PBA Tour titlists Steve Cook of Granite Bay, Calif., and Doug Kent of Newark, N.Y., along with three-time PBA50 Tour winner Dale Traber of Cedarburg, Wis., were inducted into the USBC Hall of Fame on Thursday, April 24, in Reno.
The USBC Hall of Fame class also included the late Woody Woodruff of Long Island, N.Y., who was inducted posthumously for Meritorious Service, and veteran Team USA competitor John Gaines of Orlando, Fla.
Cook owns 15 PBA Tour titles including three majors (the 1981 PBA Tournament of Champions, 1983 Touring Players Championship and 1986 U.S. Open. Cook was inducted into the PBA Hall of Fame in 1993.
Kent, a 2013 PBA Hall of Fame inductee, owns 10 PBA Tour titles including four majors - the 1991 and 2006 USBC Masters and 2002 and 2007 PBA World Championships.
Traber, one of the PBA’s most successful regional competitors with a combined 51 titles, also is a four-time USBC Open Championships titlist. His PBA50 titles include the 2009 and 2011 USBC Senior Masters.
NASCAR STAR KASEY KAHNE VISITS THE XTRA FRAME BOOTH
PBA’s Xtra Frame crew – Jef Goodger, Connor Pickford and Mike J. Laneside – had the opportunity to talk bowling with 16-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Kasey Kahne during the PBA50 Miller High Life Classic at George Pappas’ Victory Lanes in Mooresville, N.C.
Kahne, who drives for Hendrick Motorsports, is an avid fan of PBA competition on ESPN and lists Parker Bohn III and Pete Weber among his favorites. He is a frequent visitor to Victory Lanes which is located in the Charlotte suburb that is home to several NASCAR teams. Kahne said he has become an avid bowler, boasts a high game of 238 with a 14-pound house ball, and regularly follows PBA telecasts.
PBA REGIONAL ROUNDUP: MOHR WINS 12TH PBA50 REGIONAL TITLE IN GEORGIA
Two-time PBA50 Player of the Year Ron Mohr of Las Vegas won his 12th PBA50 Regional title Saturday, successfully defending his PBA50 Cherokee Lanes Southern Open presented by MOTIV title in Canton, Ga., when he defeated Paul McCordic of Sugar Land, Texas, 227-222, for the $1,900 first prize.
The Canton event took place as PBA50 Tour players headed north from the UnitedHealthcare Sun Bowl in The Villages in Florida on their way to Mooresville, N.C., for the Miller High Life Classic at George Pappas Victory Lanes, which got underway Monday.
● Dave Wodka of Henderson, Nev., defeated 14-time PBA Tour titlist Tommy Jones of Simpsonville, S.C., 208-200, to win the PBA Kona West/Northwest Open at KBXtreme Lanes in Kona, Hawaii, Monday.
Wodka earned $2,000 along with his 18th PBA Regional title in the first of three PBA West/Northwest Region events in Hawaii.
The PBA John Gonsalves Memorial West/Northwest Open will take place Thursday at Pearl Harbor Naval Station followed by the Hickam AFB West/Northwest Open presented by Columbia 300 May 2-4.
● On the mainland, the May regional schedule gets underway over the May 2-4 weekend with the Junction City (Kan.) Southwest/Midwest Open presented by Storm at Junction City Bowl; the Country Club Lanes Central Open presented by MOTIV in Elkhart, Ind., and the reduced entry-fee Bowl-A-Vard Lanes Midwest Open presented by Roto-Grip in Madison, Wis.
On the May 9-11 schedule are the PBA and PBA50 Baldo Campana Central Opens benefiting the Lorain County Kids Fund at Rebman Recreation in Lorain, Ohio; the Rocky Mount South Open at The Bowling Center in Rocky Mount, N.C.; the Midcontinent Communications Midwest Open presented by DV8 at Empire Bowl in Sioux Falls, S.D., and the Vanessa Brown Homes West Open presented by Columbia 300 at Yosemite Lanes in Modesto, Calif.
The May 16-18 schedule features the PBA Lightning Lanes Challenge for non-winners in Marion, N.C., and the PBA/PBA50 Daffodil Bowl Opens presented by U.S. Foods in Puyallup, Wash.
Memorial Day weekend will include the CBS Sports Network television finals of Oklahoma’s Grand Casino Resort Summer Swing in Shawnee, Okla., along with the Colony Park Lanes East Challenge (a reduced entry fee non-champions event) in York, Pa.; the Brookmont Bowling Center Midwest/Central Challenge (a non-champions event) and the Brookmont Bowling Center Midwest/Central Re-Entry Classic presented by Radical Bowling in Kankakee, Ill., and a pair of West Region PBA50 events in Arizona – the fifth annual Lona King Sagurao West Open at Johnson Lanes in Sun City West followed by the Miller Lite Western Open at Starlite Lanes in Flagstaff.

● The PBA Midwest Region’s Midcontinent Communications Midwest Open presented by DV8 will be televised live on Midco Sports Network on Sunday, May 11, from Empire Bowl in Sioux Falls, S.D. The noon CDT telecast will serve an MSN audience in western Minnesota, South Dakota and North Dakota.
● Betty Mage, the mother of PBA West and Northwest Region Director Gary Mage, died early Wednesday after an extended battle with health issues. She was 92.
