PBA World Series of Bowling V Kicks Off Friday With High 5 Gear PBA League Challenge: USA vs. The World on Xtra Frame

PBA World Series of Bowling V, the premier showcase of international professional bowling competition, gets underway at the South Point Bowling Center in Las Vegas Friday with The High 5 Gear PBA League Challenge: USA vs. The World at 3 p.m. PT (6 p.m. ET).

This special pay-per-view Xtra Frame event will feature 13 of PBA’s top stars, including six PBA League U.S. franchise players from the 2013 PBA League season who will battle seven international players in a match that will preview the second season of the PBA League which begins in January in suburban Detroit.

The U.S. franchise players will include U.S. stars Chris Barnes, Norm Duke, Mike Fagan, Bill O’Neill, Sean Rash and Pete Weber. The International team will include England’s Dom Barrett and Stuart Williams, Australia’s Jason Belmonte, Colombia’s Andres Gomez, Finland’s Osku Palermaa and Mika Koivuniemi, and Venezuela’s Amleto Monacelli. All players will be outfitted in new High 5 Gear uniforms.

The special PBA League Challenge webcast, which begins more than 60 hours of World Series of Bowling Xtra Frame coverage, will be available for the special Day Pass fee of $5. There will be no added cost for current Xtra Frame subscribers, but non-subscribers who would like to watch specific events on specific days will be able to sign up on a daily basis under the new program. Subscribers who sign up for Xtra Frame for the monthly fee of $7.99 or the full-year fee of $64.99 will be exempt from the special Day Pass fee(s).

To sign up for the High 5 Gear PBA League Challenge on Xtra Frame or for any of the “Day Pass” sessions Oct. 26-31, visit pba.com, click on the Xtra Frame link and head to the registration page by clicking on the “Sign Up” link underneath the Xtra Frame logo at the top of the page. Apps for mobile devices, allowing for easy access to Xtra Frame, are available for iPhones and Android devices.

The special High 5 Gear event will showcase the singles, alternate-ball doubles, Baker trios and Baker team matches that will be part of the 2014 PBA League format. Each winner will earn one point for his team in each event except Baker team, which will award three points.

The 2014 PBA League season will get underway on January 26 at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, Mich. The PBA League consists of eight teams each with a celebrity owner. Owners include NFL stars Terrell Owens (who will be competing in the World Series), Jerome Bettis and Lamarr Woodley, L.A. Clippers star Chris Paul, tennis legend Billie Jean King, comedians Kevin Hart and Chris Hardwick, and actor Jesse Williams.

World Series of Bowling PBA Tour competition begins Saturday with PBA Cheetah Championship qualifying at 8 a.m. at South Point. Four additional Tour events including the PBA World Championship will be conducted through Oct. 31 with the World Series culminating with ESPN tapings of the Tour events plus the Teen Masters Finals, World Bowling Tour Finals, PBA50 Tour Finals, Regional Players Invitational Finals Nov. 1, 2 & 3 in South Point’s Exhibition Hall B. Admission is free for all World Series of Bowling competition.
