Iowan Marc Lineberry Leads First Round of PBA Senior Sun Bowl In the Villages

by Jason Thomas April 24, 2011 13:39

THE VILLAGES, Fla. – Part-time Professional Bowlers Association Senior Tour player Marc Lineberry of Camanche, Iowa, averaged 238.6 for eight games Sunday to lead the first round of the PBA Senior Sun Bowl In The Villages at Spanish Springs Lanes.

Lineberry, whose previous best Senior Tour finish was eighth in last season’s United States Bowling Congress Senior Masters, bowled a 1,909 pinfall on games of 224, 256, 246, 248, 216, 226, 268 and 225. He leads 2009 Senior Player of the Year Ron Mohr of Eagle River, Alaska, in second with 1,883 and four-time Senior Player of the Year and PBA Hall of Famer Tom Baker of King, N.C., in third with 1,869.

“It was a situation that every bowler hopes for – matching up your game and equipment with the lane conditions right from the start,” said the 59-year-old Lineberry, who owns four PBA senior regional titles. “I only had to make a few minor adjustments and didn’t have to change equipment and that makes things a lot easier for sure.”

In his eight games Lineberry had only two open frames.

“When you’re in the pocket consistently and you make your spares, you rarely have to play catch-up,” Lineberry added. “It doesn’t always work out that way but it did for me today.”

Eight-game qualifying continues Monday after which the 149-player field will be cut to the top 32 who will advance to match play Tuesday morning. Round of 8 and championship rounds will get underway Tuesday at 7 p.m.

PBA.com’s Xtra Frame video service will provide comprehensive final-day coverage of the Sun Bowl In The Villages on Tuesday. Xtra Frame will webcast all match play rounds and the finals with coverage beginning 10 minutes prior to the start of each round at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m., and the finals at 7 pm.
