MIKE J. LANESIDE: Xtra Frame Coming Down the Homestretch

by MIke Jakubowski March 6, 2010 13:07

Just seven months after debuting a new production style for PBA’s Xtra Frame at the PBA World Series of Bowling – we are proud to announce that Xtra Frame has doubled its subscriber base, a 100% increase!

Thank you to all the great fans of the Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour for supporting early round coverage of events on Tour. Xtra Frame was created by fans of professional bowling for fans of professional bowling. More fans and more subscribers will allow Xtra Frame to continue to bring you coverage “that’s almost as good as being there.”

Last week, Xtra Frame’s coverage of the 67th Lumber Liquidators U.S. Open produced another memorable week of intense competition. If you are not a current subscriber, here is what you missed last week:

1. After 27 games of qualifying ended on Friday, Xtra Frame reconfigured and returned live for a tiebreaker game between Pete Weber and P.J. Haggerty to decide the 24th player advancing to round robin match play.

2. Another amazing position round that fans of Xtra Frame are still talking about, the shocking finish by Walter Ray Williams Jr. that propelled Jason Couch into the live ESPN televised final round.

3. Fan interaction via the PBA’s Facebook fan page, hundreds of questions were answered during each day’s competition.

4. More fun with Jeff “The Bowling Doctor” Mark and “The Most Important Chair in Bowling” complete with its own Facebook fan page.

5. PBA:39X60 Pre- and Post-Game shows that offered live interviews with champion Bill O'Neill and Ebonite brands rep Del Ballard Jr. talking about (and showing) the winning ball.

6. The ability to relive the U.S. Open and all previous match play rounds, PBA:39X60 and Xtra Frame’s archived content available 24/7.

For those of you who are current or new subscribers and supporters of the Official Video Service of the Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour, we offer our sincere thanks. If you are thinking of subscribing to Xtra Frame, the time is now as the exciting 2009-10 Player of the Year race unfolds.

For long-time subscribers and new fans here are some things to remember about Xtra Frame:

What Xtra Frame is:

1. A multi-camera production with the flexibility to deliver live and archived content for professional bowling’s greatest fans.

2. A service that listens to its customers to provide its subscribers with the very best service possible.

3. On-screen video graphics combined with camera shots of existing bowling center scoring displays provide a “near television” coverage experience similar to actually “being there” on the Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour.

4. PBA Live Scoring and exclusive Pin Mapper technology (except USBC Masters)

What Xtra Frame is not:

1. Broadcast or network television – Xtra Frame does not have the budget, equipment or staff to provide ESPN-type coverage (extensive broadcast lighting, broadcast cameras, broadcast graphics, replays, etc.).

2. A bullet-proof delivery system (individual bowling centers each have different upload capabilities and each user has individual download and display capabilities), although as video streaming advances so does Xtra Frame’s capability. Significant improvements in delivery and production value were implemented at the start of the 2009-10 season.

3. Capable of covering every player or every match play match or providing separate feeds of every lane during competition.

What Xtra Frame aspires to be:

1. The next best thing to actually attending a Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour event.

2. Tremendous value for your discretionary entertainment dollar

3. When problems occur or service is interrupted, a dedicated staff from information technology to production to customer service to resolve issues as quickly as possible.

If you enjoyed the Xtra Frame coverage (some of which was posted free temporarily on pba.com) leading up to the exciting ESPN final round of the 67th Lumber Liquidators U.S. Open and are not yet a subscriber, subscribe today! We look forward to bringing you the best coverage of the Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour leading up to the exciting conclusions on ESPN and strive to deliver a consistent, valuable service to the greatest fans of professional bowling.

Keep your thoughts coming on the PBA message board Xtra Frame subject line and on Facebook as we work together to make Xtra Frame an ever better service and value down the road.
