Petraglia Continues Record Onslaught in PBA Senior Sun Bowl

by PBA Editor May 11, 2009 19:00
Professional Bowlers Association Hall of Famer Johnny Petraglia continued to scorch Spanish Springs Lanes Tuesday, averaging a torrid 253.5 through 18 games to lead the PBA Senior Sun Bowl in The Villages field into the start of match play Wednesday.

Petraglia, who is seeking his eighth career PBA Senior Tour title, posted games of 226, 258, 277, 266, 268 and 237 on the first of three squads Tuesday, finishing the qualifying portion of the event with 4,563 pins, 35 pins shy of the record set by Dick Baker in Boise, Idaho, in 1999. Petraglia leads Ron Mohr of Eagle River, Alaska, the winner of two of the Senior Tour’s first three titles this season, by an even 200 pins.

“Things are going well,” said Petraglia, now a Super Senior at age 62. “I never expected this. I moved inside a little and used a little more hand today, and it worked. It got me into a part of the lane where I really enjoy playing, so I felt real comfortable.”

The Senior Sun Bowl in the Villages will conclude with round-robin match play rounds Wednesday leading up to the stepladder finals at 7 p.m. Eastern.
