Denny’s PBA Tour star Chris Barnes will participate in a live national online chat this Wednesday, March 26 at 11 a.m. ET on USAToday.com to promote this week’s 65th Denny’s U.S. Open which will determine the 2007-08 PBA Player of the Year award.
Barnes, a 10-time titlist who has won twice this season, leads the new PBA Player of the Year point rankings with just one event remaining, which happens to be one of the most prestigious bowling events in the world, the 65th Denny’s U.S. Open. The season’s fourth Major will award the winner $100,000 and a three-season exemption in addition to 24 Player of the Year points.
The Double Oak, Texas, resident has a two-point lead over 44-time titlist Walter Ray Williams Jr., who is looking for his record-breaking seventh PBA Player of the Year award. Williams needs to finish in the top five to at least tie Barnes. If both bowlers advance to the four-bowler championship round, the award will be decided during Sunday’s live ESPN-televised championship round at 2 p.m. ET.
Fans can already access the online chat page and send questions for Barnes to answer. To visit the online chat page, users can click here.
Barnes captured his first career Major title in the 62nd U.S. Open during the 2004-05 season. He won one title apiece in each of the previous six seasons before winning this season’s Bayer Classic in El Paso, Texas, and Don Johnson Buckeye State Classic in Columbus, Ohio. He has also won the Motel 6 Roll to Riches special event twice in his career for a total of $400,000 in prize money, although the event does not count toward official PBA titles or earnings. A win in this week’s U.S. Open would qualify Barnes for this year’s Roll to Riches event.
The 65th Denny’s U.S. Open begins Tuesday, March 25 and concludes Sunday, March 30 at 2 p.m. ET with the live ESPN-televised finals at Brunswick Zone Carolier in North Brunswick, N.J.
