This Sunday, the GEICO® PBA All-Star Shootout Hosted by Six Flags returns to the airwaves for a second set of matches on ESPN.

The stars of the PBA have never competed in such an environment. Bowling outdoors with monster roller coasters as the backdrop and fans cheering during their approach, 16 PBA standouts donned shorts and sunglasses while battling 100-degree temperatures in a made-for-TV doubles competition with $50,000 at stake.

Sunday marks the second of five consecutive weekends the event will air on ESPN or ESPN2. The second set of two shows airs July 1 from 1-2 p.m. ET on ESPN featuring two matches – Chris Barnes and Mika Koivuniemi (“Finn to Win”) versus Wes Malott and Tommy Jones (“Big and Rich”) and Danny Wiseman and Doug Kent (“Fire and Ice”) against Jason Couch and Billy Oatman, the “Southside Playas”. The full broadcast schedule is as follows:

Date   Network   Time (Shows)
Sunday, July 1   ESPN   1-2 p.m. ET (2)
Sunday, July 8   ESPN   3-5 p.m. ET (4)
Sunday, July 15   ESPN   3-5 p.m. ET (4 including one re-air)
Saturday, July 21   ESPN   12-2:30 p.m. ET (5 including one re-air)
Sunday, July 22   ESPN2   3-5 p.m. ET (re-air of four shows)

The 16 All-Stars selected to compete in the event were: Patrick Allen, Barnes, Parker Bohn III, Couch, Norm Duke, Jones, Kent, Koivuniemi, Malott, Oatman, Sean Rash, Tony Reyes, Robert Smith, Pete Weber, Walter Ray Williams Jr. and Wiseman.

In the first weekend of action, the “Southside Playas” defeated Rash and Weber, dubbed the “Midwest Mafia,” 290-277, after striking 11 consecutive times. The second match saw the veteran team, “Will Duke ‘Em,” consisting of Duke and Williams, knock off “Smooth and Slick” – Allen and Bohn – by a score of 228-219.

In addition to shaking up the format and the feel of the event, the PBA’s broadcasting team also has a new look for the All-Star Shootout with Jeff Medders handling play-by-play duties alongside veteran PBA color man Randy Pedersen, while billiards superstar Jeanette Lee works the sidelines.

The event, which took place June 14-15 at Six Flags St. Louis in Eureka, Mo., was sponsored by Aaron’s Rents, Denny’s, GEICO, Motel 6, Six Flags and the United States Bowling Congress (USBC).
