PBA Commissioner and CEO Fred Schreyer announced today Norm Duke and Walter Ray Williams Jr. have been voted into the 2007 Motel 6 Roll to Riches special event via an online fan vote.
The Motel 6 Roll to Riches features a winner-take-all $150,000 top prize. The event will be contested Thursday, April 5 at 7 p.m. ET at Sequoia Pro Bowl in Columbus, Ohio. The show will air on ESPN as two back-to-back one-hour shows on Sunday, April 15 beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
Duke (Clermont, Fla.) led the all-star voting, receiving 27.1% of the total votes cast. Williams (Ocala, Fla.) was second with 17.1% while Chris Barnes (Double Oak, Texas) was third with 11.2%.
Duke and Williams will join the three winners of this season’s Denny’s PBA Tour Major events in this unique high stakes event.
The six participants include:
- Doug Kent, winner of the 2006 USBC Masters and 2007 Denny’s World Championship.
- Pete Weber, winner of the 64th U.S. Open.
- Winner of the 2007 PBA Tournament of Champions.
- Wes Malott, 2006-07 PBA World Point Rankings leader.
Duke, a 26-time Tour champion, leads the Tour with three titles this season. He also earned his second consecutive George Young High Average Award and compiled $127,000 in season earnings. Despite withdrawing from seven events this season due to a broken toe, Duke is one of the leading candidates for the PBA Player of the Year award.
Williams, a PBA Hall of Famer, broke the Denny’s PBA Tour’s all-time titles record this season with a win in the Dydo Japan Cup 2006. He now owns 42 career titles and a Tour-record $3.8 million in career earnings. This season, Williams captured one title and took home $120,370 in earnings.
