Norm Duke continues his dominance in the 2007 Pepsi Championship at Woodland Bowl. The 25-time Denny’s PBA Tour titlist compiled an 8-1 record and a 23-game pinfall of 5,872 through the first round of round-robin match play that awards 30 bonus pins for a win and 15 for a tie. Total pinfall from Thursday’s Round of 64, which Duke (Clermont, Fla.) led completely, carried over to Friday’s action.
Mike DeVaney (Temecula, Calif.), who went 6-3, is the closest competitor behind Duke, 250 pins behind at 5,622.
Jeff Carter (Springfield, Ill.), who finished third in the 64th U.S. Open, is third with 5,597 and a win-loss record of 7-1-1.
Tony Reyes and Tommy Delutz Jr. round out the top five with identical 6-3 records. Reyes (San Bruno, Calif.) has the edge in pinfall with 5,586 compared to Delutz’s (Flushing, N.Y.) 5,577.
Brian LeClair (Athens, N.Y.) withdrew midway through the Round of 32 due to an illness and was replaced by Marv Sargent (Temecula, Calif.).
