Wes Malott leads the field after seven games of qualifying in the Round 64 Thursday in the 2007 Great Lakes Classic at Spectrum Lanes with a 1,746 seven-game pinfall.

Malott, who won the 2006-07 PBA Harry Smith Point Leader award, averaged 249.43 in Thursday’s first block, shooting 246 or better in each of the first six games. He finished with a 225 to take the overall lead heading into Thursday’s second block.

The 2006-07 PBA Rookie of the Year Billy Oatman is second with 1,742 while PBA Hall of Famer Parker Bohn III is third with 1,701. Wednesday’s Tour Qualifying Round leader Rhino Page is fourth with 1,693.

Mitch Beasley fired the day’s only 300 game so far and is 13th.

On the women’s side, Diandra Asbaty leads the field with 1,566. Asbaty was a late replacement for Robin Romeo, who had to withdraw due to a thumb injury. Romeo was already filling in for PBA Women’s Series regular Wendy Macpherson, who did not compete this week due to commitments to the Japanese Professional Bowlers Association (JPBA). After Romeo injured her hand Wednesday morning, Asbaty – who bowled the Wednesday Denny’s PBA Tour Qualifying Round – was called upon to replace Romeo since she finished 18th in this summer’s PBA Women’s Tour Trials.
