In a continuing effort to expand the sport of bowling, the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) is offering activities for local bowling centers to become involved with this year’s National Bowling Week promotion.
National Bowling Week is a collaborative effort of the United States Bowling Congress (USBC), the Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America (BPAA), PBA, Strike Ten and the International Bowling Pro Shop and Instructors Association (IBPSIA). National Bowling Week will be held from August 26 to September 1.
Local proprietors are implementing one of the PBA’s following concepts during National Bowling Week:
• Conduct a Free PBA Youth Clinic: The PBA is providing a suggested format, helping to recruit PBA professionals to attend the events and supporting the center’s efforts with ideas to make it a success. The PBA currently plans to conduct four youth clinics with PBA exempt players including Ritchie Allen, Jeff Carter, Wes Malott and Pete Weber on Friday, August 25. These clinics are an ideal way to actively engage collegiate, scholastic and USBC youth bowlers in local markets.
• PBA Oil Pattern Contests: The PBA is giving the formula for one of the five licensed PBA Oil Patterns and suggestions for unique contests to run on those patterns to participating centers.
• PBA Trivia Contests: The PBA is providing interested centers with trivia questions and 10 PBA-sponsored items to give away to trivia contestants.
• PBA Day: The PBA is providing a highlight video from the 2005-06 Denny’s PBA Tour to participating centers to run on scoring monitors and video screens. Centers are encouraged to invite PBA members to meet with their customers and provide a few tips during the festivities.
• Become a PBA Practice Center: For centers that are not already participating as a PBA Practice Center, the PBA is making them an official PBA Practice Center for the duration of National Bowling Week. Centers that become PBA Practice Centers will be listed on the PBA website, www.pba.com.
