JACKSON, Mich. -- Dick Weber finished ninth to make the cut to the top 24 after the fourth round of qualifying in the PBA Senior National Championship at Airport Lanes in Jackson, Michigan Wednesday afternoon.
Gene Stus of Taylor, Michigan retains his lead after 32 games of the PBA Senior National Championship being held at Airport Lanes in Jackson, Michigan.
Stus averaged 238 for the 32 games to keep a 69-pin lead over Dale Eagle of Tavares, Florida. Defending champion and 2000 Senior Player-of-the-Year Bob Glass is in third position, just 15 pins behind Eagle.
But who is that guy in 9th place? None other than 71-year-old Dick Weber who proved he can still play with the “kids”. He fired games of 258-257-257-259-259-268 in the first six games of the 8 game block but faltered near the end, but is well in the hunt, trying to emulate what son Pete managed last night in the PBA Great Lakes Classic.
Match play begins this evening at 6:15 pm and continues Thursday morning at 8 a.m. and Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. The top five players will move onto the stepladder finals which begin at 8 pm Thursday night. First place in this event is $12,000.
